Cohabitating

Cohabitating or living together has become very widespread and popular among younger adults. Many young adults who make the decision to live together are trying to avoid a bad marriage. They may not want to have a bad marriage like their parents did or they may not want to go through the pain of divorce. Marriage is a big commitment to another person and one not to be taken lightly, but living together before marriage is not the answer.

Did you know...

  • People who live together are more likely to suffer from depression.
  • Affairs are twice as common with people who live together.
  • Forty percent of live-ins never get married.
  • Those live-ins that do get married have a 50% higher chance of getting divorced. Ironically, the very thing that cohabitating couples are trying to avoid is more likely to happen to them because they choose to live together before marriage.
  • Living together actually can weaken the view of commitment and marriage.
